Stories are the bedrock of great communication and a brilliant tool for inspiring speaking. Our inspiring speakers programme graduates were invited to design their own talk completely from scratch; from finding their topic, to writing their speech to engaging an audience.
This selection of speakers, who have never done anything like this before had particularly powerful stories to tell. Have a watch and see how you might use stories in your own speaking:
The Amazing Stories on this playlist are:
“6 Kids, 1 Wife, 2 Weddings, a Stag-night and a Funeral”: Adrian Cassidy
From Olympic rowing hopeful at his own stag party, to a major accident that left everything in question, Adrian’s dramatic story is told with humility and power.
“Breaking Tradition: How to Live Unbound”: Yang-May Ooi
Author and now story-performer Yang-May Ooi started off her journey with Ginger. This talk was later extended into the West End show ‘Bound Feet Blues’ and charts the extraordinary trials of women who suffered the Chinese tradition of ‘foot binding’. Dramatic and powerful.
“The only way to grow: Elaine Hopkins
Terrified speaker turned award-winner, Elaine Hopkins shares her childhood struggles with dyspraxia and how she learned to take a brave leap into the world.
Alison Coates – The story of the boy and the dog.
A simple and charming account of childhood bravery that gives us all the power to go beyond our comfort zone.
Kamaldip Bains – From Religious Freak to Freaking Amazing!
For the first time, Kamaldip shares her family’s experience of being taken in by a charismatic cult leader. You think this stuff happens to other people, but Kam’s bravery in sharing her ‘shame’ gives lessons for us all.
“Ties that Bind” – Elliot Wilson
A tale of admiration, tenderness and the fragility of life – Elliot shares a profound and moving story about his sister.
Before people join the Inspiring Speakers Programme they almost always look at these speakers and think ‘not me, I couldn’t possibly’. But by the time they’ve been through our training, they’re ready and powerful.
If you’d like to inspire an audience, investigate Ginger’s Inspiring Speakers Programme. We’d love to have you along.
